What is Yoga? |

Yoga is a complete science of physical health, mental clarity, emotional stability, and spiritual expression. Yoga is also the harmonious state of living as our highest self.
Traditionally, yoga was not taught in classes, but transmitted through a student-teacher relationship that was comprehensive and profound. Private yoga is uniquely effective in this way.
Physical alignment lifts us into the lines of gravity, which makes us light, stable, and strong. Conversely, postural imbalance creates compression on muscles, organs, joints, and nerves. Skeletal alignment and muscular balance are inextricably linked, and appropriate yoga improves both. This is where private instruction begins.
Yoga shifts our perspectives about what is possible, in both our bodies and our lives. The body tightens in response to stress and pressures, locking them in ...and we proceed to believe this is how we really are. Yoga opens us, and helps us learn not to react to life by shutting down. As awareness increases, we find options rather than limitations.
Opening physical restrictions can also release emotional pain, as well as damaging emotions such as anger, jealousy, and fear. Through the body, we tangibly experience the struggles and breakthroughs of both body and mind. We become freer, happier human beings. Quiet Mind supports this process.
Yoga translates as union. Imagine if we could unite and focus our scattered energies to direct positive change in our lives ... and the world? Yoga brings clarity to chaos. Yoga is also that harmonious state of being that comes from living integrated as our highest self. The original texts expound on this, barely mentioning the physical practice of postures so popular in the west today. The body is not the end, but the means, to experience the many facets of life ... and yoga is a dance on the pathway to freedom and joy!
